Born in BARI (South East of Italy) in 1968, he starts playing the drums at age 15 with a local teacher. He soon begins various collaborations within the rock/funk scene of the city. In 1988 he founds the group SHAW PARK BAND, with whom he'll play many concerts with and a few recording projects. In 1990 he moves to TORINO (North of Italy) where he starts a professional career in nightclubs, disco, ballrooms and COSTA CROCIERE and PAQUET CROISIERES cruise lines. In this time frame (' 90 to ' 94), he has the opportunity to backup for the following international artists among others: SON CARIBE (hit single 'LA COLEGIALA') CLEM ASHFORD (gospel,jazz,r&b) THE PALATA (gospel,spiritual) REJANE PERRY (musical STAR MANIA).
In 1993 he receives a scholarship from BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC (BOSTON, MA) where he starts his studies in 1995 with such great drummers as JOHN RAMSAY, JON HAZILLA, BOB MOSES, SKIP HADDEN ,KENWOOD DENNARD and the great LENNY NELSON. He finishes his studies in ' 97 with a 3.90 G.P.A.
While in boston he places himself in the music scene performing with different bands: KAI (cd released in April' 99), FULL STEAM AHEAD, ODYSSEY ARKESTRA, EQUINOX and others. In the summer of 1997 he TEACHES the 5 weeks program at BERKLEE where he participates in many college activities and performances including performances with guitar master WAYNE KRANTZ.
In December 1997 he releases his first solo CD: <<...OLE_Obj...>> Read the Review on Drum Club (Sept.98) featuring JIM KELLY and BRUCEGERTZ.
In march '98 he TOURS Italy and Switzerland with JIM KELLY TRIO. It will be in june 1998 that he releases the CD: SPAJAZZY, produced in collaboration with the bass player TINO D'AGOSTINO. The CD features as special guests JIM KELLY and MIKE STERN on guitars.In November '98 another tour with SPAJAZZY featuring STEVE HUNT on keyboards. Sergio is currently working on the new "SPAJAZZY", was the Music Director for "Odyssey Cruises " from june 2000 to March 2001.Currently teaching "Berklee City Music Preparatory School" at Boston Arts Academy.Faculty member at the 2001 Berklee's "World Percussion Festival" and freelancing in the Boston where he lives with his Wife Lucia since 1995.
Sergio is teaching drumset at Berklee College of Music Also writes for the Most widely read Italian Magazine DRUM CLUB.
Sergio is also a member of the Band LITTLE HORSE who just released the first CD featuring the Tower of Power Horn Section.
